Talia Rose writes about her favorite robots and her least favorite feelings.
Born and raised in Boston, Talia has been playing guitar for as long as she can remember. An early love of acoustic fingerstyle guitar led Talia to seek mentorship from guitarists including Thomas Leeb and Jon Gomm. In 2016, she moved to New York to study Jazz at New York University with Peter Bernstein, John Scofield, and Adam Rogers. She then earned her Master's in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory, where she studied with Julian Lage, Dominique Eade, and Ran Blake.
Talia's diverse career has included performances at venues including Club Passim (Boston), David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center (NYC), The Blue Note (NYC), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), The Kofferfabrik (Nuremberg), and at the Belize International Jazz Festival. She has worked alongside artists including Lindsay Foote, Naomi Westwater, Chris Walton, Heather Scott, Femme Jam, Polymnia Choral Society, Broadway Jr Company, and Grammy Award Winning actress Milly Shapiro. A seasoned pit performer, Talia has performed in numerous theatrical productions, including many new musicals, collegiate and high-school performances, cabarets at Green Room 42 and 54 Below, and a one-night-only performance of music from "Wicked" featuring Caroline Bowman, Nikki Renée Daniels, and a choir of 200+ high school students at Lincoln Center.
Talia’s 2018 release What Goes Unmentioned marked the beginning of an exploration of her voice as a songwriter. Her writing combines intricate guitar accompaniment and a complex understanding of harmony with carefully crafted, deeply personal lyrics. Talia's songs reflect elements of the music she grew up with; from the melodic sensibilities of Imogen Heap, to the vulnerability of Adrianne Lenker, to the wittiness of Prefab Sprout.
In August of 2024, Talia Rose released her first full length album in collaboration with 9Athens music. Carry it Closely employs the hands of many of her closest friends and collaborators. Max Ridley lays a solid foundation on both upright and electric bass, and longtime friend Lucas Ebeling (The Thing) provides tasteful drum accompaniment, as well as an explosive drum solo in “Watercolor Moon II.” Heather Scott (Hawthorn) lends their voice to create rich vocal textures, and is featured as the lead vocalist in “Watercolor Moon.” Post-production, piano, and keyboards by Jack Broza elevate the arrangements into a lush, luxurious soundscape. The album was mixed by Don Mitchell (Darlingside) and mastered by Dan Cardinal at Dimension Sound Studios.
In addition to her performing career, Talia has been teaching students of all ages for over ten years, and now teaches privately and at Church Street School of Music & Art in Tribeca.
